Tax Manager to oversee tax compliance and reporting for their Alternative RICs—hybrid investment vehicles that blend private market strategies with mutual fund structures. This high-impact role offers broad organizational visibility and is perfect for someone who thrives at the crossroads of tax strategy, compliance, and investment operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead RIC Tax Compliance: Ensure Subchapter M and RIC qualification for private mutual funds and alternative strategies.
Manage External Partners: Coordinate with Big 4 firms on tax provisions, deferred taxes, and disclosures.
Oversee Filings & Reconciliations: Handle federal, state, and excise filings; manage GAAP-to-tax reconciliations and book-tax differences.
Optimize Distributions: Conduct income/asset tests and excise tax planning to enhance shareholder outcomes.
Respond to Tax Inquiries: Lead responses to IRS and state audits in collaboration with advisors.
Advise Across Teams: Partner with Accounting, Operations, and Leadership on fund structuring and regulatory impacts.
Stay Current: Monitor tax law changes and drive updates to policies and structures.
Qualifications:
6–10 years of progressive tax experience, ideally in asset management, mutual funds, or alternatives
Deep knowledge of RIC taxation and Subchapter M compliance
Big 4 public accounting background strongly preferred
Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or Tax; CPA or MST preferred
Strong grasp of U.S. investment company tax rules, GAAP, and tax allocations
Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex tax topics
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
